Simple Strength Club is an online organization where members perform and approve attempts made in the deadlift and overhead press.
Unlike typical strength organizations where there is a governing body dictating rules and officating lifts, Simple Strength Club places the power back in the hands of the participants.
To become a member, all you need to do is have an approved lift. Thas it, mang! No annual membership like those other organizations.
Once you are a member, you are in charge of approving other members' lifts. If you don't agree with a rule—propose a change and we will all vote on it! The goal is to build a community that motivates you to do the best that you can.
Here is a short introduction video that I made attempting to explain Simple Strength Club.
I am altering how we define a “member in good standing” to move from a paid membership toward just having an approved lift.
I am doing this for a variety of reasons, but the primary one is I don’t think the club as it exists right now is actually worth paying for! With something like SSC, there is a critical mass that needs to be achieved in order for the value proposition to be obvious.
Don’t fret–I am never going to turn toward typical monetization strategies like selling user data. I feel very strongly about the ethics of privacy on the internet.
If anything, I would want to first explore perhaps merchandising (think a tshirt with your handle and member number on it) or when I implement the GAUNTLETS maybe having some sort of means of users creating their own entry fee (to be used for rewards) and taking a percent of that.
Since I’ve pretty careful on costs, it really isn’t breaking my bank to run SSC with such low volume.
I am cancelling all subscriptions. If you were on a paid plan, you should see a refund being issued.
All you need to do in order to become a member in good standing is have one of your lifts approved by current members.
